WHAT'S THE PROBLEM?

  • Started Oct. 15, 2024
  • With the next open jam scheduled for the following night, the bar urgently needed a fast, reliable solution to publicize the event and streamline the sign-up process to help build a lasting impression for their customers and increase business.

THE PROBLEM

River North Icehouse, a bar known for its vibrant weekly open jam nights for musicians, was struggling to effectively promote the event and manage the sign-up process. Despite its popularity, event details were often lost in communication, and attendees lacked an efficient way to RSVP, leading to last-minute sign-ups that disrupted the event’s flow.

  • Finished Oct. 16, 2024
  • This rapid solution not only improved event organization but also enhanced the promotional reach of the weekly jam night, creating a smoother experience for both staff and attendees.

THE SOLUTION

In response to this urgent need, I designed and launched a dedicated event webpage using Adobe tools. This webpage provided a clear, accessible hub for all event details, enabling the River North Icehouse team to easily direct inquiries to a single source. Additionally, the page featured a streamlined RSVP form, allowing attendees to pre-register efficiently.

RESEARCH & LOOKING FORWARD

User Research: To create a solution that truly met the needs of both River North Icehouse and its open jam attendees, I conducted a swift user research process. I gathered insights by briefly speaking with bar staff and regular attendees to understand their main pain points around event information and sign-ups. This quick, targeted research highlighted that clarity and simplicity were paramount—users needed a single source for event details and a quick RSVP method. Based on these insights, I focused on designing a minimalistic webpage with essential information and an intuitive RSVP form, making it accessible and easy to navigate on mobile and desktop alike.

Stakeholder Thoughts: The River North Icehouse team was thrilled with the end product, especially given the tight timeline. The owners expressed appreciation for the design’s simplicity and effectiveness, noting that it allowed them to answer common attendee questions with ease by directing them to the new page. They were also pleased with the RSVP form, which significantly streamlined the sign-up process and reduced the chaos associated with last-minute attendee management. Overall, the stakeholders were enthused by the quick turnaround and the way the solution captured the essence of their event without complicating the user experience.

Looking Forward: Looking ahead, I plan to further refine this product by incorporating user feedback from attendees and staff after a few event cycles. Potential improvements could include an automated RSVP confirmation email, reminders for attendees, and a digital queue display to manage on-the-spot sign-ups. Additionally, integrating social sharing options could amplify the event’s reach even further, driving more traffic to the webpage and increasing event visibility. These enhancements will ensure that the solution evolves alongside the needs of River North Icehouse and continues to enhance the experience for both the staff and their audience.

INSPIRATION & BRAND CONSISTANCY

With such little time for prototyping, I created an artboard based off of the current branded website to keep the colors and other design schemes consistant. Click below to view their current website.

WORKING PRODUCT

After gaining some quick user insight and applying the design scheme from their current webpage, I was able to put together a second iteration of the webpage that was ready to share on the day of the event. I also helped to secure a clever domain name for the stakeholder (seeuwednesdaynight.com) to help create a further buzz for their Wednesday event.
